The Mayor of Vilnius, the capitol of Lithuania, was tired of seeing cars parked illegally in bike lanes which are marked in green. The lanes are only for people riding bicycles and the city of Vilnius has worked hard to encourage people to ride bicycles instead of cars.
Since Lithuania gained Independence in 1990 the amount of cars in the country has skyrocketed. Four times as many people have cars nowadays. This means people are less likely to find a parking space.
Even if people have trouble finding parking, Arturas Zuokas, the Mayor of Vilnuis, does not think anyone should park in a bicycle lane. So he takes care of it himself by crushing a Mercedes with a tank.
What's shocking about this video? Not that Arturas Zuokas crushed a car with a tank, but that a politician actually did something. At least that's how I see it.
On his Youtube channel he did mock his antics by putting sticker on another illegally parked car “Don't Make Me Get The Tank.”
