RelayRides

Shelby Clark, the Founder and Chief Community Officer, of the revolutionary peer-to-peer car sharing network RelayRides has announced he is stepping down from his role at the company.  He will remain on the Board of Directors for RelayRides though.  Mr.Clark sent out this Tweet on his Twitter feed yesterday;

For those that don’t know RelayRides allows people to rent out their personal vehicles to individuals.  To some this might sound a bit crazy, but for those follow this blog you might remember that I wrote about Relay Rides opening up the service nationally.   From what Shelby Clark told me he and others enjoyed using RelayRides and it has benefited many people who don’t have easy access to cars.  They are other services like ZipCar but you need to drop off and pick-up those cars at specific locations while with RelayRides a neighbor can rent you their personal vehicle.

I have not heard what Shelby Clark’s next plans are but I am sure whatever he does he will do great considering his success at RelayRides.

Business Card

Adam’s Auto Advice has some new official business cards!  I can give them out at car shows, events, as well as family, friends, etc.  Basically whoever is interested in my work.

I am happy with design and how the overall look of the cards came out.  I ordered through OfficeMax, but they use Vistaprint’s system. Officemax was cheaper though because Vistaprint charges a lot for shipping!  Vistaprint was $15 for 7-day shipping, while Officemax had Free Shipping for these cards.  Officemax charged more for the cards, but it came out less expensive because of the shipping.  I assume Vistaprint makes a lot of money charging ridiculous shipping prices.

I paid a little over $40 for this batch of 500, which was not a good deal at all.  While I like the image and look of the card, the paper is thin.  Like cardstock you would have bought from the store and printed at home.  The cut on some of the cards did not come out well.  I don’t really feel like I got my money’s worth with Vistaprint.

I did some checking around and found other websites with much better deals and quality.  A lot offer free shipping on any order and proofing.  If you are looking around for business cards or thinking you might want to get some in the future, I would recommend signing-up for emails from a couple printing websites.  You will be notified of special promotions and sales, which makes a big difference in cost.  I will use these cards up and then ordered from another website.

I would like to hear comments and suggestions from people.  What do you think of my business cards?  Do you like or dislike the design?

The Safety Scholars video contest voting ends today.  If you have not voted for you favorite video yet, please make sure to do so.  Remember you are not just voting for lucky students who will receive a $10,000 and $5,000 college scholarships, you are eligible to win a prize just for voting.

Part of the goal of Safety Scholars is to create messages on driving safety that are, “Coming from another teenager to another teenager.”  says Angela Patterson, digital media coordinator, for Bridgestone Americas.  I would say this is exactly what the participants in Safety Scholars have accomplished.  The videos are creative, thought provoking, and extremely well executed.  It was hard for me to choose my favorite among the videos.  Watch the videos and please try your best.

I saw this beautiful white Lotus while driving home today.  At first I thought it was a Tesla, but then I realized it was a Lotus.   It did say “Lotus” in big letters on the back.  They look very similar.  Lotus builds Teslas body and shells currently, so it’s no wonder even a car guy would get confused.

Last week I got a speeding ticket in the mail.  I think it was from one of those new speed cameras installed in school zones or maybe a mobile speed camera van.  This makes sense because it was the 5000 block of Roland ave.  I was going 43 mph in a 30 mph zone.  Ok… yeah…  I was speeding but it’s annoying to have to pay this ticket.  It’s only $40 and and at least you don’t get any points on your record.

I will say… this probably works!  I doubt I will speed around Roland Park anytime soon.  Still the city will get me somehow.  This really is about one thing, generating revenue.  If you see an envelope that says “Baltimore City Photo Enforcement” you know you are screwed!
